What Does The Bible Teach About Life On Other Worlds?
(The Short Answer)
by Bill Knell

Many theologians would have us believe that the Bible is an incredibly complicated book. Therefore, most any subject they choose to study using the Word becomes equally complicated. This view in itself goes against Scripture. Let's begin by looking at a few important facts about how people can and should understand and use the Bible in their lives.

The book of 2 Timothy, Chapter 2, appoints God's Word authority over the traditions, teachings and philosophies of people calling those 'profane and vain babblings.’ In Chapter 3 we are told that the people who wrote the Bible were divinely inspired by God, so we can trust Scripture as being the very Word of God:

“16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2 Timothy 3:16 KJV)

Jesus tells us to “search the Scriptures…” in the Gospel of John because the Bible is the only book that explains the gift of eternal life and how we can accept it. No complicated process, no convoluted meanings. We are told in John, Chapter 3, God loved the world so much that he GAVE his only Son as payment for the sins of people. A gift cannot be bought or earned by the receiver. To accept, we must be “ born again” from sin to salvation by praying to God and telling Him that we accept His Gift of eternal life.

The Bible does not promise to answer every question we have about our world and others. However, this inspired Book allows us to make certain determinations. In Isaiah 40:22 we are told, “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:”

We instantly learn that the Earth is round. We are told that people look up and see heavenly bodies as someone would part a curtain to look out a window. And what do we see? Stars and planets spread out like tents that people live in. It could have said like like trees in a field. The tent example might be a way of saying that we see the homes where other beings dwell.

Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla Cars and Space X, recently stated that people should plan on colonizing other worlds because most Scientists and Astronomers believe we are alone in the Solar System and Universe. Musk used a recent Stanford University study based largely on formulas and probabilities to prove his point (sounds like vain babblings to me). He also pointed out that many Christians also believe the same thing. Well, not exactly.

Humans are created beings. So are Angels and the “living creatures” described in the Book of Ezekiel which serve the Lord. The Bible also states that we are surrounded by a great cloud or number of witnesses. Then there are references to the host of heaven. A Host is a large group, as in the Egyptian Host which was an army destroyed by God in Exodus. The term “heaven” can mean space, the home of God or other things depending on how it is used.

When I look at photos from the rovers on Mars I think of a landscape that appears decimated from some great catastrophe. That reminds me of the Gap Theory which appears in the notes section of the Scofield Study Bible. Scofield proposes that a gap of indeterminate time exists between Genesis 1:1, which states: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”, and Genesis 1:2, which states: “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep…”

The reason for the gap may be that a great catastrophe occurred on Earth which was most likely caused by the inhabitants. Some believe it may have involved Satan's rebellion against God as well. Whatever the cause,if it did occur it could have involved or happened on other planets with other civilizations as well. We must remember that the Bible is about God's relationship with his human creations. That doesn't mean that other intelligent beings cannot exist or have once existed on Earth or elsewhere.
